ON POINTE includes three parts:
Part I: BASIC POINTE WORK Beginner-Low Intermediate by Thalia Mara
It’s purpose is to present a clear and simple exposition of pointe work, while inspiring students towards higher achievements. All ballet terms are given in French including the phonetic pronunciation of each and their meanings. Each exercise is clearly illustrated with drawings showing exactly how to position the body, head, arms, and feet.
Part II: A LOOK AT THE USA INTERNATIONAL BALLET COMPETITION by Janice Barringer
This goes beyond the basics by providing information about preparation for competition. A history of the USA International Ballet Competition is given, along with interviews with competition winners who have gone on to professional careers. This section is intended to offer helpful advice from those who have “been there,” and to encourage students to think about their futures as dancers.
Part III: A BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH WITH PHOTOS OF THALIA MARA detailing her many achievements as performer, director, teacher and writer. |
